I’m Shamil "SYFi", a professional tattoo artist from Brooklyn, New York. I’m currently a resident artist at Skin Design Tattoo in SoHo, New York City. Tattooing professionally since 2019, I specialize in tattoo styles: Traditional, Neo-traditional, Black & Grey Realism and other illustrative works.

Known for my attention to detail, I place a high priority on the connection between my clients and their tattoos. I focus on elements like composition, flow, contrast, legibility, and longevity to ensure that each tattoo not only looks great in the moment but will continue to stand the test of time. My easy-going personality, sense of humor, and honesty make me a great collaborator, allowing for a smooth brainstorming and design process with my clients.

BACKGROUND:

I was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. Due to frequent power outages, I started to teach myself how to draw at the age of three in order to pass the time. Since then, art became an integral part of my life. I come from two generations of shoemakers. At the age of seven in pursuit of better opportunities, my family moved to Brooklyn, New York. 

With pressure from my family from a young age to study medicine or law, I initially pursued an academic path to Optometry while working as a paralegal in a law office. But after graduating from college with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Studio Art in the Spring of 2017, I had a revelation that my true passion will always be intertwined with art. So I decided to fully immerse myself into the trade of tattooing, which integrated my love for art and science. ​
